Our best mouse of 2014 returns this year to CES with quite the facelift. Steelseries had massive success with the original Rival and sees quite the future for its newest iteration with the 700 model. Voted best gaming mouse of CES, among other accolades, the Rival 700 features some interesting modifications we weren’t quite expecting. Will the 700 finally be the mouse to retake its throne from the infamous Logitech g502? Here’s what we know about and like about the Rival 700.

First Impressions

Similar to the design with the original Rival, everything feels quite comfortable in its current configuration. While the Steelseries Engine will allow you to customize the living bejezuz out of its products, the Rival 700 feels optimal straight out of the box. It isn’t often that you’re able to plug and go these days, with some mice taking hours of setup just to optimize sensitivity for most popular titles.

The OLED display on the Rival 700’s side can be adjusted to monitor a wide variety of stats and other features that Steelseries will continue to add support software for. It can even be programmed to display a team logo. All of this is stored on the mouse as a profile and can be used on another desktop without additional installation.

The Rival 700 also has vibration features for those who want additional triggers for in-game events. Your mouse can send short vibration pulses to remind you of a much-needed reload, or the close proximity of an enemy player. The sky is the limit.
